If you’ve learned why accepting bitcoin is good for your business and are ready to do so, then you are in the right place!
How To Accept Bitcoin
There are 2 main ways to accept bitcoin: through your Square PoS, through a bitcoin mobile wallet.
Square Point-of-Sale
As of November 2025, businesses that use Square for their payments can accept bitcoin from their customers!
You can choose to accept the payment in bitcoin, in dollars, or a combination of the two. Even if you’re not ready to accept bitcoin as money, the customer can spend bitcoin and you can receive dollars!
Mobile Wallet
If you don’t use Square (or don’t want to) you can download a bitcoin wallet to your phone or tablet and begin accepting bitcoin instantly!
There are many bitcoin wallets that you can download and use. However, we recommend Wallet of Satoshi to get started with bitcoin, for its ease of use and features. It’s available in both iOS and Android.

- Make sure the top of the screen says “Lightning” and not “Bitcoin On-Chain”
- You can toggle between the two by using the lightning bolt and Bitcoin symbol buttons on the bottom
- The price can be set in sats or dollars
- Tap the orange zero to input the price
- A note can be attached by tapping “Add a Note”

- Accept Bitcoin When You’re Not At Your Business!
- Write down the address located below the QR code on the Receive screen (xxxxxx@walletofsatoshi.com)
- This is your wallet’s address, and it will receive bitcoin even if the app is closed and your phone is off
- Have the customer pay this address
- Note: Printing or screenshotting the QR code here will not work

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I advertise that my business accepts bitcoin?
Yes! You can get free “Bitcoin Accepted Here” stickers here.
If you use Square, you can order a free sticker and sign kit here!
Some crypto guy told me bitcoin was too slow to be used for payments, how is this working?
Transacting using these payment methods uses what is called the Lightning Network (Lightning). Lightning is a payments layer built on top of bitcoin to facilitate instant and private transactions.
How private are these transactions?
If using Square, knowledge of the transaction is between you, the customer and Square. While Square knows you’ve received a payment, they don’t know who the customer was.
If using Wallet of Satoshi, knowledge of the transaction is between you and the customer. It is impossible for an outside observer to know the transaction took place, as well as know the amount.
Do I need to record my bitcoin transactions to be tax complaint?
Yes, to be tax compliant you need to record the bitcoin transaction, the amount of bitcoin, and the price of bitcoin at the time of the transaction. Square will manage this for you. With Wallet of Satoshi you can export a .csv file of your transaction history, but the bitcoin price will not be included.
Bitcoin is effectively digital cash?
Yes!
